Blogging on the Brain: 7/30 - 8/4

Some highlights from the week in brain blogging:

Where are the genetics to IQ? The always excellent GenExp covers a recent article that comes up empty-handed for identifying the precise genes responsible for IQ's hereditary component.

How to Get Better Sleep: Mind Hacks points out an article in Science with advice about how to apply the latest in sleep research to your own nightlife.

Noticing Changes: Cognitive Daily finds a new demonstration of change blindness.

Sound Improves Learning: Dr. Jarrett covers a fascinating study in which compatible sound effects increased the speed of learning a perceptual task.

Rat Art: A petri dish of rat neurons uses robotic arms to paint. Wild!

Alex the Gray Parrot has object permanence! (How similar are parrots and children, really?)

Life Like a Movie: An oldie by Christof Koch in Sci Am, about whether consciousness is more like a series of snapshots or a continuous stream.

Have a nice weekend!

I've got blogging on the brain, but unfortunately instead of developing intelligence I should probably just be content with maintaining sanity!

Impressive site! Related posts links with each post, recent comments list, and even a little stab at the heart of spam (Spam Poison). Not to mention content that took a couple of pass-overs to fully absorb! Thanks to Google for making you a "Blog of Note"!

Believing in permanence is silly, little parrot, and childish, indeed.

Does this site develop intelligence, or does it add to the confusion?

anyone interested on the relationship between IQ and genetics should check out the book "The Bell Curve." It's a source of great controversy because of some of the implications of the findings, but most of its critics clearly did not read the book all the way through.

do you think global warming is helping our hurting our brain power?

I too was directed to this blog from Blogger's front page selection. Haven't found the time to look around in depth but straight up I love the mission statement, and these resources are brilliant. Thankyou for your work.

I am now using the spam poison code also. Good stuff.
